CAMPAIGNERS in Colne have been left with a "bittersweet" feeling after successfully fighting off plans for 270 homes - but seeing 90 properties allowed for a rural site.
Protests against controversial plans to develop The Rough, an unspoiled triangle on the edge of the town, were led by residents group Lidgett and Beyond, with the support of borough and county councillors.
But after a public inquiry, the twin bids by Junction Property Ltd have been resolved, with differing outcomes.
Each of the applications, which overlap on the land off Windermere Avenue, had been rejected by the Colne area committee of Pendle Council last December.
