Mark Ashworth secures Harold Ryden Trophy success

In the semi-finals Clarkin overcame Accrington’s Ben Scott 2&1 courtesy of a fantastic finish which saw him card three successive birdies on 15,16 and 17.

The other semi-final saw Ashworth overcome last year’s beaten finalist Anthony Harwood (Blackburn) 6&4.

But that only tells half the story as Harwood saw his drive on the eighth hole end up in the pocket of a spectator.

That led to Harwood taking a drop where the ball was judged to have gone into the pocket and the Blackburn man was able to rescue a half in par,

But it wasn’t enough to help Harwood into a second successive final as Ashworth proved too strong,
