A RIBBLE Valley school is celebrating after seeing its Ofsted rating bounce back up.

In a newly released report, St Mary's RC Primary School in Langho, which has see-sawed in recent inspections saw improvement across almost all the key areas and was given a rating of 'good'.

The school in Whalley Road was praised in leadership, teaching, personal development, outcome of pupils and early years provision when it was inspected last month.

Within the report, lead inspector Pippa Maitland said: "Pupils’ personal development and welfare are

outstanding.

"Pupils are kind and considerate. Older pupils take good care of younger children and treat their peers with respect.

"Pupils are happy, enjoy coming to school and are safe and pupils’ behaviour and attendance are good.

"All groups of pupils, including disadvantaged and disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs, make good progress across school from their different starting points.

"The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is improving rapidly and pupils’ enthusiasm for learning spills over.

"Pupils say that they find lessons fun and exciting."

The school has 242 pupils at its roll and recently appointed Elizabeth Stevens in September last year as the headteacher.

It's previous Ofsted report in 2013 said the school required improvement in several areas.

However, Ms Maitland said there was areas of the school that needed improving.

She said: "Teaching is not yet of a consistently high standard across all classes to ensure that pupils, including

the most able, make the rapid progress of which they are capable.

"A small number of teaching assistants currently lack sufficient skills and strategies to fully support

pupils’ learning effectively.

"Middle leaders are not confident in using assessment information to have an accurate understanding of strengths and weaknesses in the areas they lead or to measure the impact of their actions."

A school spokesman said: "Following their recent Ofsted inspection, governors and staff are delighted to have been judged as a good school with outstanding personal development and welfare of their children.

"We will continue to work together to provide a high standard of education for our children and to build on the hard work that has taken place.

"We would like to thank parents for their continued report."
