ONE of the shop assistants subjected to a 'sustained violent attack' at a shop in Darwen was stabbed in the stomach.

Detectives investigating a robbery at Premier Stores at the junction of Walmsley Street and Anyon Street, took place on Sunday evening, are continuing with enquiries to trace two suspects.

At around 7.50pm two men entered the store where they subjected the shop assistant to a terrifying attack.

During the incident one male shop assistant was stabbed in the stomach suffering a puncture wound to the abdomen.

The injury is not life threatening and he was treated and discharged from hospital that night.

Both suspects were armed with knives.

Both men wore hoods and covered their faces and were dressed in dark clothing. They left the shop having stolen around £80 and ran down Bennett Walk towards Fitzgerald Drive.

DI Tim McDermott of East Division CID added “This is a busy local shop in a residential area.

"The level of aggression used against the shop assistant was appalling and cowardly.

"At this stage I believe it’s likely the offenders will be connected to the local area and I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact us immediately. "While our enquiries continue we will also maintain extra patrols in the area."
