A SCHOOL's successful attempt to break the world record for the most people in one place to wear a Christmas jumper raised £1,720 for charity, it has been revealed.

All 1,431 students and staff at Haslingden High School and Broadway Primary School gathered on the school's tennis courts for five minutes and managed to seize the record from the previous holder, East Lancashire building firm Jewson, by 244 people in December.

All the students were given a barcoded sticker so officials could verify the record attempt.

The school has now revealed the fundraising total for the event which will be donated to Rossendale Hospice.

Students in Year 10 who helped to organise the event were also awarded a 'most innovative idea' award at Alder Grange School in Rawtenstall.

The video of the attempt on the school's Facebook page has been viewed more than 11,600 times.
