Nine allotments have been created in Church so that residents can grow their own vegetables.
Church's Prospects group has set aside the plots of land as part of its drive to improve the local environment.
The group has also organised a canal-side walk on May 29. Councillors and residents will walk along the town's stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool canal towpath as part of a scheme to set up a Friends of the Canal project.
