A murder inquiry has been launched after a man died in Burnley.

Police were called to Sandpiper Square in the town at about 10.40pm yesterday after the 33-year-old was found with serious injuries.

He was taken to Burnley General Hospital, but died an hour later.

The man has been named by police as 33-year-old Patrick Healey.

His address has not yet been released.

Eight people have been arrested in connection with the death and are being questioned at Burnley Police Station.

Det Supt Mick Gradwell, who is leading the investigation, said: "We have launched a murder inquiry and opened an incident room at Burnley Police Station.

"We have made a number of arrests, but we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the incident and would urge them to come forward and contact us."
