A MAN left a pub licensee husband with a smashed eye socket, a court heard.
Peter Campbell, 29, of France Street, Accrington, over-reacted and swung his arms about after feeling a hand on his shoulder in the Thorn Inn, Accrington.
Peter Hardy was hit by either the defendant's elbow or fist and suffered a fracture to the left orbital bone, Burnley Crown Court was told.
Campbell was given two years supervision, with the CALM - controlling anger and learning to manage it - programme.
Recorder Maurice Greene said he had to sentence Campbell on his basis of plea but if he had been sentencing him on the facts outlined in the victim's statement, he would have been going to prison.
The judge said Campbell, who had apologised to Mr Hardy, had a bad record for violence but had been making excellent progress with a a community order.
