THE new Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen led the annual civic procession through Blackburn town centre yesterday.
Dozens of civic dignitaries attended the event which saw the introduction of Coun Maureen McGarvey, accompanied by her mayoress Ann Law-Riding.
A welcoming service was held at Blackburn Cathedral, conducted by the Very Rev Christopher Armstrong, the Dean of Blackburn.
Guests included Blackburn Superintendent Tim Jacques, Primary Care Trust chief executive Judith Holbrey, and Graham Burgess, chief executive of Blackburn with Darwen Council.
The mayor's chosen charity will be Make A Wish, which supports children with life-threatening illnesses.
