TWO people who made neighbours' lives hell have been given a court order to curb their noisy behaviour Pendle Council said two people in the borough have become the first in the town to be given criminal anti-social behaviour orders (CRASBOs) for noise nuisance.

It comes as the authority revealed it received nearly 800 complaints about noise, 700 of which were of noisy neighbours, in the past year.

Now as part of noise action week the council is urging residents to report others breaking the law by being noisy.

Coun John David, executive member for the environment said: "These orders, the first of their kind in Pendle, ban these people from making excessive noise - and they risk up to five years in prison if they break them.

"These orders should act as a warning to people that we do take noise nuisance very seriously in Pendle."

The 700 complaints about noisy neighbours included loud TVs and music, barking dogs and DIY. As part of Noise Action Week, starting on Monday, Pendle Council is advising people to: l Consider the noise they make themselves and the effect it has on others l Consider the types of noises that disturb them most l Use practical solutions to everyday problems, like turning down the volume or not leaving dogs alone for long periods l Respect their neighbours.

Coun David added: "Over the last year Pendle Council has responded to nearly 800 complaints of noise. Almost 700 were about domestic noise, such as loud music and televisions, dogs barking and DIY .

"Noise made by other people can have a profound effect on our quality of life. Our environmental health officers are keen to remind people who suffer noise nuisance they will take action to help."
