A 26-YEAR-OLD man shouted racist abuse at a shop security officer after he asked him to put his hood down.

Blackburn magistrates heard that John Paul Shenton returned to the Netto store in Darwen a month later and this time ended up in a struggle with the same employee after again racially abusing him.

Shenton, of Great Bolton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two charges of racially aggravated threatening behaviour. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £50 costs.

John Wood, prosecuting, said Sajid Malik had received abuse when he asked Shenton to remove his hood while in the Netto store in January.

Shenton came back into the store in February, despite being barred, and when challenged by Mr Malik shouted racist abuse at him.

"Mr Malik thought at one stage he was going to be attacked by the defendant and put him into a lock," said Mr Wood.

Roger Pickles, defending, said Shenton had step-siblings who were of mixed race. "He says he is not a racist. He accepts this man was only doing his job and he should have complied without protest."
