A ROAD safety operation aimed at putting the brakes on speeding motorists in Blackburn has been hailed a success.
The Blackburn south west neighbourhood policing team carried out road safety operations in four areas across the town, including Blackamoor Road, School Lane, Lincoln Road and Hereford Road.
The operation also focussed on raising awareness of other road safety issues including the wearing of seatbelts and the use of mobile phones when driving.
Seven motorists were warned for speeding and 11 motorists were given fixed penalty notices for failing to wear a seatbelt.
Community Beat Manager for Fishmoor and Highercroft, PC Gareth Brooks said: "I hope that local residents will be reassured that we do listen to their concerns and we will take action against anyone found to be driving dangerously in our neighbourhoods.
"This is just the start of a more sustained period of enforcement and I hope it acts as a warning to motorists who drive dangerously that we will not tolerate this in our neighbour-hoods."
