A GROUP of brave amateur runners have dashed to the aid of a vital charity – by ditching their running vests and shorts.

Members of the Darwen Dashers club have dared to bare in a new semi-naked 2016 calendar.

MORE TOP STORIES:

The calendar was inspired by the famous Rylstone WI Calendar Girls, whose antics were made into a feature film, and it is now available to buy.

Darwen Dashers chairman Chris Cash said: “We always tend to do donations for the hospice and because some members have had relatives supported by them, that’s why we chose them.

“We also prefer donating to local charities rather than national ones.

“Some of the ladies pictures were particularly good because the heather on the moors was in full bloom so they came out well. We had a good laugh and everything was done very discreetly.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“The men were just happy with what was taken, they weren’t bothered, but for the ladies there was a long consultation over which ones were going to go in, as you can imagine.”

The calendars are being sold on club nights, at Sunnyhurst Pub in Darwen, every Tuesday and Thursday for £10 each.

The groups meet before 7pm.

Money raised will go towards East Lancashire Hospice which cares for people suffering mostly from life-limiting illnesses.

Hospice fundraiser Kim Hall said: “It is the first time that the Darwen Dashers have done this for us.

“We have had fundraising like this in the past but we are thrilled with this concept.

“We got a sneak preview of the calendar and are very happy with the outcome. It brought a smile to our faces and will bring a smile to our patients’ faces.

“The money raised will help the families of our patients and we hope people get a copy of the calendar.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Darwen Dashers meet on two nights of the week and have around three to four groups of differing distance and ability running.

Runs usually take place from 6.15pm onwards.
