Four men have been cleared of attempted murder following a knife attack in East Lancashire.

But two men were found guilty of wounding with intent for the attack on Ishtiaq Ahmed, who was a convicted murderer once sentenced to death in Pakistan.

Ahmed was stabbed eight times and his lung punctured when one blow penetrated his rib cage, Preston Crown Court heard.

The incident took place near a mini market on Colne Road, Brierfield, on July 25 last year.

Irfan Ali, 38, of Colne Road; Saqib Ali, 28, of Chapel Street; Rizwan Ali, 36, of Castle Street, all Brierfield , and Zumir Khan, 19, of Loxford Avenue, London, all denied attempted murder, and were found not guilty.

They did not give evidence at the trial.

Rizwan Ali and Khan were found guilty of wounding with intent and violent disorder and were remanded in custody before being sentenced on June 29.

Saqib Khan, who was convicted of violent disorder, was remanded on bail until the same date.

Irfan Ali was cleared of all charges.

Judge Stuart Baker described it as an ugly incident.
