A MAN was left with serious injuries following an assault over the weekend.

Detectives have launched an investigation after the incident which happened at 'The Butts' in Barnoldswick in town centre .

A 21-year-old man was assaulted with a glass bottle during the incident which took place in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said the victim was attacked by two men and left needing surgery to his hands.

He is currently recovering from the assault in Burnley General Hospital.

The attack happened near the Barlick pub.

Police said the two attackers were white, 22 years old, medium build, one with blond hair, the other with short dark hair.

One was wearing a pink T-shirt and the other a yellow T-shirt. Both men are believed to have been drinking in the town centre during Saturday evening.

Det Sgt Dave Groombridge, of Nelson CID, said: "This was a very serious assault which has left a young man needing hospital treatment for some serious injuries to his hands.

"He was quite badly hurt during the incident and needed surgery, but he is now recovering.

"We think the two attackers were drinking in the town centre earlier in the evening and if anyone has seen anyone matching their descriptions we would like them to get in touch.

"It seems the assault happened after the victim was involved in an argument with the two other men.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this incident or have any information about the people involved to come forward so that we can try and find those responsible as quickly as possible."
