MORE than 30 licensees from Pendle attended a seminar to get advice about new smoking laws which start on July 1.

It was organised by environmental health services.

Executive member for the environment Coun John David said: "We are looking forward to working with Pendle businesses and communities towards a smoke-free Pendle.

"The council wants to set an example by fully supporting the new legislation.

"During the seminar, guests learnt more about planning and licensing considerations and the implications of not complying with the ban."

Speakers included representatives from Nelson Fire Station, East Lancashire Primary Care Trust and Pendle Council.

The ban will protect people from second-hand smoke in public places.

The seminar was the first of a series of events planned to aid Pendle businesses to fully comply with the new laws. For more help, visit smokefreeengland.co.uk or contact Sheila Bell, smoke-free co-ordinator for Pendle Council, on 01282 662011.
