A HEADTEACHER bid an emotional farewell to the school he has presided over for 15 years.
Craig Ward retired from Griffin Park Primary School, Blackburn, 24 years after he first arrived at the Cavendish Place school as deputy head.
Mr Ward, 58, said: "It was an emotional but very enjoyable day, the rest of the school had organised all sorts of things as a surprise.
"During the final assembly, the pupils recited poems they had written for me, and sang songs such as the Manchester Rambler, because they know I love walking.
"The evening before a party was held with staff and former colleagues, which was also great."
Mr Ward, who lives in Wilpshire, began teaching in Blackburn 37 years ago at St Stephen's primary.
He said: "I've seen huge changes and, although these days the curriculum is overcrowded, I think children get a better deal."
Mr Ward said that while he will enjoy the chance to pursue his many interests and hobbies, he will miss the pupils and school life.
He said: "You never know what's going to happen from one day to the next, that's why it's always been such an interesting job."
