RESIDENTS across Blackburn with Darwen are being offered free compost bins.
As part of Home Composting Week, Blackburn with Darwen Council is encouraging householders to recycle their own waste.
Home composting is an easy way to cut household waste by about one third and by composting at home, residents can turn their rubbish into a valuable conditioner to improve soil structure, texture and aeration.
Residents can use material that is normally thrown away, such as raw fruit and vegetable scraps, garden waste, paper and cardboard.
Tips on effective composting are included in information packs supplied with the bins on offer.
