THE first annual Scarecrow festival took place in Padiham yesterday.
The festival was organised by the Stonemoor Bottom Residents' Group and took place in Stonemoor Green.
The group vowed to make the festival a bigger and better event next year.
With at least 12 entries and 60 visitors the organisers hailed it a success. Mary Chapmen, of Lancaster Drive, won with her summer themed scarecrow. Ann Bartlett, chairwoman of Stonemoor Bottom Residents' Group, said: "We have big ideas for next year.
"We paraded down Lancaster Drive and handed out sunflower seeds, goody bags and medals to the children who attended.
"We will be judging the sunflowers in our summer garden competition."
