One of the youngster’s grandparents took to Facebook to share details of the incident in a post that has been shared almost 1,300 times.

In it, he said the man ‘ran out’ the supermarket after ‘taking’ the two-year-old down the escalator.

But a spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said CCTV footage showed no offence had been committed, and said the incident was a ‘misunderstanding’. She said: “No offence has taken place.”
