THE Football Association has confirmed it is investigating the ugly scenes which marred the final few minutes of Ramsbottom United’s 1-0 defeat to Buxton in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division on Tuesday night.

With the hosts trailing to an early Liam Hardy goal, all 22 players and some members of staff from both sides became involved in a brawl which saw Ramsbottom’s Dominic McHale and Buxton’s Alistair Taylor sent off.

The FA confirmed it is aware of the incident and will be investigating once they receive the referee’s report.

All disciplinary procedures are dealt with by the game’s governing body rather than the individual leagues and a decision on whether any sanctions will be imposed on players or clubs is expected within the next few weeks.

Ramsbottom boss Jon Robinson insisted his side had moved on from the incident.

He said: "It has been blown out of proportion,

"I think social media and camera phones have just made it more than it was. It was handbags really.

"I don't actually think there was a punch thrown and the worst that happened was someone got some water thrown over them.

"I thought the referee handled it really well, he sent the right two people off and we move on."

Robinson's attention has already turned to Saturday's derby clash at home to Hyde United which will see both sides looking for their first three points of the season.

"I think it will be a good game," said Robinson, whose side were beaten 2-0 by Rushall Olympic on the opening day.

"It's a chance for us to get three points.

"We played well on Tuesday night against a good Buxton side who I think will be up there this season.

"I felt we let ourselves down on the opening day against Rushall but once we click into gear I think we will be fine.

"It's not as if we are losing by big margins .

"We are a new team and it will take some time for us to gel."
