DARWEN’S Akash Indian Brasserie has been nominated for parliament’s Tiffin Cup 2015 as MPs run their annual competition to find best curry house in the country.

The Duckworth Street restaurant has been nominated by Darwen MP Jake Berry and he hopes it can be crowned best south Asian restaurant in the UK.

It is the tenth year running that MPs have been been asked to nominate a restaurant in their constituency for the trophy, The cup is awarded every year by the Tiffin Club of MPs, formed in 2006 by former MP John Barrett and current MPs Michael Fabricant and Keith Vaz.

The grand final of the Tiffin Cup 2015, which will raise money for the charity World Vision, will be held in the House of Commons, London, on October 27.

Club chairman Mr Vaz said: “After the overwhelming success of last year’s competition we are looking forward to another change to sample some of the best offerings of Indian food in Britain. I wish the Akash the best of luck.”

Mr Berry said: “I am delighted that the nomination for Akash has been accepted. This is such a prestigious competition and I look forward to welcoming Akash to the House of Commons, should they win their regional heat.

“I am sure that everyone in Darwen will be rooting for Akash to be champions.”
