A SUNBATHING resident has his pet to thank for not losing more belongings to burglars.

The homeowner was in the garden at the property on Glenn Crescent, Stacksteads when the dog barked to put off the raiders.

PCSO Christopher Hamer, of Rossendale police, said the door had been left unlocked.

He said: “The occupant was in the rear garden of their home when a burglar let them self in via an insecure front door.

“The offender pocketed a quantity of cash and property before being disturbed by the occupant’s dog.

“We would like to remind residents of the importance of locking doors and windows before entering the back garden.

“More than one in three burglaries in Lancashire are when a house has been left insecure. Please do not allow your summer to be spoiled by burglars.”
