A MAN from Darwen, who assaulted his partner while the victim's three-year-old son was in bed, has kept his freedom.
Football coach Andrew Smith, 28, attacked Claudia Thomson, inflicting up to 20 bruises.
Smith told her he was going to kill her and the child would not have his mother any more, Burnley Crown Court heard. The defendant, of Milking Lane, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
He was given a two-year community order with the community domestic violence programme and supervision. He must also pay £350 compensation and £420 costs.
