DADS are being offered the chance to get involved with their children's learning through sport.

Audley Junior School and Blackburn with Darwen Council's family learning department are to take part in the Dads and kids project'.

The 30-hour learning project will be launched on Monday, April 23 at QEGS Sport Centre.

The workshops are being supported by coaches from both Darwen Cricket Club and Rishton Cricket Club.

Dads will be encouraged to apply literacy, language and numeracy to the sport of cricket to make learning fun!

This project ends in a one off cricket match with St Mathews's CE primary and the dads and kids going to watch a match of 20/20 cricket between Lancashire Lightening v Sussex Sharks in a Natwest Pro 40 League Division 1, at Old Trafford.

Adam Scott, director - regeneration, housing and neighbourhoods for the council said: "Making learning fun is what it's all about, to ensure that dads too, have a role in the lives of their children.

"Sport can encourage learning basic literacy and numeracy skills to then put into practice when keeping score and reporting back.
