PENSIONERS across East Lancashire are missing out an average of £580 a year by not claiming benefits they are entitled to, Age Concern has said.
Half of pensioners across Lancashire are failing to claim council tax benefit, the charity said.
Other important benefits such as housing benefit and pension credit also go unclaimed by many older people, according to Age Concern.
Geraldine Moore, chief officer of Age Concern Lancashire said: "Many older people do not have sufficient income to make ends meet.
"It is very important therefore that money is not left unclaimed.
"We have expert advisors who can check that older people are getting their welfare rights.
"We can explain each benefit simply and clearly, calculate what you might be entitled to and even help you fill in claim forms. In some cases pensioners have been able to double their income just by claiming their entitlement".
