FLIGHT upgrades, tickets to rock and roll gigs and plush hotel suites - not the demands of A-list celebrities but just some of the perks claimed by East Lancashire's MPs.

And the free jaunts taken by two of the politicians included trips to exotic destinations Taiwan, Bahrain and India.

Rossendale and Darwen MP Janet Anderson and Nigel Evans, Ribble Valley, also bagged themselves flights and tickets for the MTV European Music Awards in Copenhagen in November.

The treats from big businesses have been revealed in the latest House of Commons log, which records gifts, trips and financial donations received by MPs. The Register of Members' Interests also lists their sources of work and income outside their direct political career.

Welsh-born Conservative Mr Evans declared his convenience store in Swansea as a a means of making extra cash. He also noted a trip to Montego Bay at the expense of Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic to celebrate the inaugural flight from Gatwick to the Jamaican destination.

Mr Evans said: "I accepted the trip to the MTV awards as the vice-chair of the all-party music group and as a member of the culture, media and sport select committee.

"It was thrilling, although it reminded me of how old I am getting. Justin Timberlake was a great host and I got to see Daniel Craig, too, but I would still say that the Brit Awards are better."

He added: "The trip to Jamaica allowed me to meet Richard Branson and talk to him about the importance of Manchester Airport."

Mrs Anderson courted controversy last year when she recorded the highest expenses of all East Lancashire MPs and 17th highest in the nation. She also has the highest mileage claim of any MP.

The log shows she travelled abroad twice at the expense of overseas' governments. She also took her daughter to the Denmark music event, all paid for by MTV. She was unavailable to comment.

Blackburn MP Jack Straw also managed to secure goodies for his family, including two tickets to the Wimbledon ladies final and both his wife and daughter benefiting from upgrades to first-class luxury on long-haul flights. He was unavailable to comment.

Burnley MP Kitty Ussher admitted earning up to an extra £5,000 a year by writing occasional articles for the New Statesman. She said: "It doesn't take up much of my time and I often write about the views of my constituents. I wrote an article about the closure of accident and emergency departments referring to Burnley.

"I don't spend it on expensive haircuts - I use it for things I can't claim back on my MP expenses, such as going to the Labour Party conference and sending out my Christmas cards."

Hyndburn MP Greg Pope and Pendle MP Gordon Prentice both listed nothing. Mr Pope said: "I just don't get asked to that many things - perhaps my colleagues are more popular than me!

"I travel alot as part of my work for the foreign affairs committee so it is not appropriate for me to travel abroad more on things that aren't related to parliament."
