Jobs will be created in Rawtenstall after an office development was given planning approval.

B&E Boys, a family business based in Rossendale, has been given the go-ahead to build the 25,000sq ft development at Higher Mill, off New Church Road.

Up to nine businesses could be accommodated in the development, which will also feature 15 town houses.

B&E Boys have owned the land for a number of years but there was a procedural hitch in the planning process which delayed the scheme.

Peter Boys, who is a director of B&E Boys, said: "We could have gone for housing on the whole site but, whenever we can, we seek to provide facilities for jobs and, of course, office accommodation provides high employment use.

"The use of the offices will be totally flexible and they could accommodate up to eight or nine businesses although, if one wanted to take over the whole suite, that too would be an option.

"The offices will be for sale or to let."

In addition to the office facilities there will be secure car parking in the basement.

"We think this will be an attractive proposition for businesses as the development will benefit from easy access to the town centre and the motorway network," added Peter.

The development should be completed in 18 months.
