HOPES for a skatepark in Trawden could soon be dashed when initial reports are published in the next few weeks.

Teenagers in Colne and Trawden had asked Pendle Council's Colne and District Committee to look into the idea of ramps for skateboards and BMX bikes at Ball Grove park, Keighley Road.

Officers have visited the site and talked to the teenagers, as well as visiting skateparks in Barnoldswick and Clitheroe, and holding discussions with Trawden Forest Parish Council.

But the Friends of Ball Grove Park have already voiced their objection to the idea, which they say would spoil the peace of the park and attract anti-social behaviour.

A number of residents are also concerned about ramps being set up so close to their homes, fearing late-night noise nuisance.

The parish council is still backing the skatepark, though, and chairman Karen Galvin said it would help reduce the number of skaters damaging walls in the village by using them as ramps.

She said: "The kids have quite rightly asked us to give them something to do. We should at least look at the possibility of providing more facilities."
