A GREAT-grandmother got a card from the Queen and a visit from an MP and a mayor as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Linetta Lenny' Holden, lived on her own until she was 97 and now lives at Northwood Nusing Home, Blackburn.

The town's MP Jack Straw and mayor and mayoress, Dorothy Walsh and Barbara Arkley (pictured) were among visitors to her party.

Lenny and her late husband Arthur Holden had one son, Alan, now 74.

He said: "My mother has always been a fighter and will always be a fighter.

"My mother still has a very agile mind and this keeps her young."

The grandmother of four and great-grandmother of four said: "It feels strange getting old.

"The years pass so quickly."
