A TWO-week-old baby born with a severe skin condition died a day after being discharged from hospital for the first time, an inquest was told.
An inquest heard that Ishmail Shahzad suffered from a rare congenital skin disorder which had required treatment with creams from the moment he was born.
The hearing was told that as a result of his condition Ishmail was more susceptible to infection which eventually led to his death.
His father, Shahzad Ghausa, told the inquest he had given Ishmail a bottle of milk about 2.30am but the child was unsettled. About 7am his mother, Saeeda Rami, picked him up and the child started vomiting.
An ambulance was called and Ishmail was taken to a nursing home next door to their house in Shear Bank Road, Blackburn, where a member of staff tried to help. He was then taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he died.
The medical cause of death was given as acute bacterial sepsis as a result of congenital ichtyosis which coroner Michael Singleton recorded as a natural cause of death.
