FIRE crews from across Lancashire and Greater Manchester were alerted just before 4pm today to a blaze on the West Pennine Moors.
An alert was issued after a pilot flying over the moors spotted a blaze in the Winter Hill area.
Firefighters including crew members from Darwen and Chorley were called to tackle the fire, which was said to be around a mile from the Georges Lane area.
Homeowners were warned to keep their windows closed around Belmont and Rivington to prevent their properties being affected by smoke.
