A SUSPECTED terrorist from Blackburn appeared in court yesterday ahead of a trial that is expected to last six months.

Junade Feroze, 31, of Malham Gardens, Audley, was brought into the dock at Woolwich Crown Court with six other co-accused.

Feroze is accused of conspiracy to murder and plotting to commit public nuisance and the use of radioactive materials, toxic gases, chemicals and or explosives.

Each defendant was led in by two prison officers and placed on seats next to one another.

The seven men were escorted from Belmarsh Prison, the country's highest security jail, to the court.

There were 11 prison officers sitting behind the defendants who were all behind a glass screen.

Dressed in a grey jumper and white shirt, he sat while Judge Mr Justice Butterfield began moves to select a jury.

From a panel of 82 potential jurors, seven were shortlisted.

A further 10 potential jurors were found later in the day before all were sent home by Justice Butterfield.

The jurors were due to return to court today before a final panel of 12 will be selected and sworn in.

Potential jurors were asked several questions including whether they, a friend or relative had been in the vicinity of a bomb explosion or alleged terrorist incident.

They were also asked if their occupation or beliefs might inhibit their ability to try the case impartially.
