CORONATION Street star Sam Aston, who plays cheeky Chesney Battersby, returned to his old primary school yesterday to try out their new crazy golf course.
The 22-year-old member of Bacup Golf Club, attended Thorn Primary to attempt the ‘Chesney Challenge’, which saw Sam compete against the school council.
The new facilities at the Cowtoot Lane school will be used in PE lessons and later opened up to the public at evenings and weekends.
Sam said: “It’s really good fun. I haven’t done very well so far, it’s much harder than it looks. Anyone who cracks this will be a pretty good player.”
It was while Sam was attending the school that he got the job of playing Chesney in 2003. He was aged nine.
Teacher Nadya Carter said: “He went into his old classroom and the kids were gobsmacked. One burst into tears she was so overcome.”
