A GRANDMOTHER is set to go toe-to-toe with one of the nation's most feared quizmasters tonight.

Freda Pickavance will appear on the BBC2 show The Weakest Link and said that filming was "great fun" despite the tough on-screen persona of host Anne Robinson.

She said that Anne gave her a tough time when the cameras started rolling but was "smashing" to talk to.

Freda, 67, of Buckingham Grove, Church, said all of her four children and 12 grandchildren would be glued to their screens to support her.

Although she can't give too much away about the show, she admitted that she didn't win or make it to the final two.

And she said that she believes she was only voted off by the other contestants because they thought she was too clever.

Freda, a governor at St Nicholas Primary School, Church, said: "I was doing well answering questions and I think the other people on the show were worried about me!"

She said that she always watches the popular show and was excited to take part. Freda added: "I like Anne a lot. She has an act that she does for the show and I think the banter is part of the act. She's quite funny and clever.

"I always watch the show but it's a different matter when you get up there. I have always been good at answering the questions at home but the easiest questions are quite hard when you are actually there.

"Anne spoke to me for quite a long time about football. I think she tried to trip me up but it didn't work.

"She asked me what the off-side rule was and I don't think anyone expected me to get it right but I am a big football fan."

Freda is a Blackburn Rovers fan but after telling Anne that she was from the Accrington area they talked about Accrington Stanley.

She travelled to Pinewood Studios in London for a day of filming earlier this year.

Tonight's show begins at 5.10pm on BBC2.
