A MAN is recovering in hospital after suffering severe facial injuries.

The 53-year-old from Waterfoot was taken by paramedics to Burnley General Hospital at 2.30am on Sunday after he was found at his Brow Edge home.

His noes and cheek were badly cut and one ear was torn away .

He had also lost a tooth.

A police spokesperson said: "The man could not recollect what had happened to him, but it would appear that he had accidentally walked into a concrete post in Rawtenstall when he was walking home.

"Officers went to the place where he had fallen, and there they found the man's walking stick, and his tooth."

He added: "We think that he accidentally walked into a concrete post, which caused the injuries to his cheek and ear.

"The impact caused him to fall face forward onto the kerb, which damaged his nose and knocked out his tooth.

"He then managed to make his way home, where he dialled 999.

"We are not treating the incident as suspicious."
