Fire crews tackled a blaze at a house in Brierfield on Sunday.
Firefighters were called to the fire at a terrace house in Railway Street at about 6.45pm.
The empty house next door to the taxi office was well alight by the time firefighters arrived and a bedroom was badly damaged.
Station manager Nick Clough said there was no smoke alarm fitted at the house.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
