A BOY was airlifted to a specialist hospital suffering from head injuries after a collision with a supercar.

The youngster, believed to be seven or eight-years-old, was involved in the incident with a high-performance Lamborghini Huracán in Guilford Street, Brierfield, at around 4.15pm on Friday, police said.

He was airlifted to Manchester Children’s Hospital, although police have since said his injuries were not as serious as first feared.

A section of the road - a residential street off Burnley Road - was closed off following the collision as police investigated.

The Italian-made sports car, which has a 5.2 litre V10 engine and is capable of reaching speeds of over 200mph, was released last year.

The base model, before any extras such as carbon fibre kits or controllable rear spoiler are added, costs around £180,720.

Nobody was arrested following the collision, the police spokesman added, and there was nothing to suggest speed was a factor at the outset of the investigation.

Councillor Naeem Ashraf, who represents Brierfield for Labour, said he had never seen the sports car in the area before and had no idea who it belonged to.

He said: “This was not down to speeding. I got a call on Friday evening but I was told no speeding was going on.

“Guilford Street is a quiet residential area and it isn’t a rat-run, but there is an issue with racing in that area generally.

“We have mentioned it in meetings and the police are fully aware of it and are doing stuff, but they can’t be there every hour of the day.

“We need to do something about it.”
