AN ALTHAM RSPCA inspector will be undertaking the toughest challenge of her lifetime to raise money for the animal charity.

Sarah Bagley, 27, will be undertaking a gruelling two-mile swim of Windermere, followed by a 140-mile coast to coast cycle, and an 18-mile run on three consecutive days.

Sarah, who has previously taken part in triathlons, said: “This is going to be a massive challenge.

Last year I did the two-mile Great North Swim and the following day I could hardly move, so I can’t imagine how I am going to be feeling or how I’m going to complete a 140-mile bike ride the next day. And then a swim.

“I am a little nervous and excited. I am more nervous about the sponsorship side because I want to raise as much money as possible. I feel like the sport side is the easy part.”

Sarah has been an inspector for two and a half years and covering the East Lancashire and West Yorkshire region.

She said when she gets chance she attends midday swims at Colne baths, and is a member of the Craven Energy triathlon group and Keighley and Craven Athletics Club.

Sarah, who lives in Keighley, said: “I knew that if I wanted to raise a lot of money I’d have to do something big.

“Anyone can do a half marathon or a swim so I knew I needed to do something that stood out so people would donate.

“I want to raise thousands of pounds which will be split between the local centre and the charity nationally.

“I have done an Olympic distance triathlon – one-mile swim, 40km cycle and 10k run – but this will definitely be a challenge.

“The most I have cycled is 100 miles and the most I have ever ran is 13 miles.

“I will go on a practice route for the cycle and see if I can do it.

“If not, I’ll just have to train harder.”

The event will start on June 12 at Windermere.

The coast to coast will take Sarah from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. The following day her run will start from Tynemouth and finish in Gateshead – her home town – where she is expected to be welcomed by a homecoming committee and fundraising party.
