HYNDBURN Council has promised to crack down on irresponsible dog owners.

Bosses at Scaitcliffe House released a statement following a complaint about two dogs attacking a family in Rishton.

A spokesman said: “We are in the process of reviewing our dog control orders in relation to fouling, dogs on leads, excluding dogs from certain areas, and this may give us the opportunity to strengthen our position.

“This will be under new anti-social behaviour powers.”

Rishton councillor Ken Moss said the owner of the dog involved in the incident, which he said happened on the White Path, is known to the dog warden.

He said “The owner has been served with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) and also has a previous FPN from the police for aggressive behaviour.

“An investigation is now open and this will involve the police.”

Last year, the council picked up 245 stray dogs.
