A LANDLORD visiting one of his properties became suspicious because the tenant was using the electric hob to heat the house.
Blackburn Magistrates’ Court heard a subsequent inspection by the utility company revealed the meter had been bypassed and Arthur Michael McDonagh had been using ‘free’ electricity for around an 11-month period.

McDonagh, 40, of the Islington Motel, Great Bolton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to dishonest use of £1,244 worth of electricity.
He was ordered to pay the full amount of electricity he had stolen in compensation.
