POLICE have released CCTV images of eight men who they would like to speak to following a violent brawl in Burnley town centre.

Around 15 people were reported to be involved in the incident in Hammerton Street in which a man is understood to have been viciously attacked.

He is believed to have been stamped and kicked in the head and required hospital treatment.

Officers said he was lucky not to have been seriously injured.

Det Con Barry James, of Burnley CID, appealed for anybody who might be able to help police with their enquiries into the incident, which happened at around 7.20am on April 4, to come forward.

He said: “We are keen to identify and speak with the eight men pictured and would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

“Incidents of this nature involving such levels of violence are simply not acceptable and will not be tolerated.” 

Police are still investigating how the alleged brawl.

Three men have been charged in connection with the incident and will appear before Burnley Magistrates Court on April 21.
