EAST Lancashire residents have been warned about products that make unfounded claims to improve people's health.

The county's Trading Standards Service is becoming increasingly concerned over the scams and the risk to people's finances It was warned people to think twice before the buy.

Rachel Wilcock, from Lancashire County Council, said: "Health claims on pre-packed foods and supplements, particularly those sold on the internet, sometimes make bogus boasts about how they will improve certain aspects of people's health.

"Dishonest claims include products promising to help to lose weight and to improve muscle growth, mood and virility. Often these claims have no basis in science and are completely unauthorised.

"We want to educate consumers to be more aware about the things they are buying on the internet, and to not get taken in by the hype. These products often cost a lot of money "Nothing is as effective at helping you lose weight as doing more and eating less."
