A BOWLING academy set up in memory of a keen player has teamed up with council bosses and volunteers to revamp a new green in Colne's Alkincoats Park.

Support from the Philip Wright academy, Friends of Alkincoats Park and Barcroft Street residents, along with Colne area committee, will see the surface ready for the 2015 season after it suffered vandalism from footballers.

Parks officer Kieron Roberts said: "We carried out extensive renovation work before winter. The bowling academy in particular has worked very hard over the last six months to drive the project forward and it’s great that the new bowling green is ready in time for the 2015 season."

The season will begin this weekend with Saturday sessions from 10am and noon.

Daryl Wright set up the bowling academy in memory of his son Philip, who lost his life with two friends in a July 2009 car crash.
