A DRUGGED-UP Blackburn dad has been jailed after a violent outburst which saw him assault his partner and spit in his daughter's face.

Shaun Gareth Shaw, 40, also attacked a teenage boy during the incident.

He was sent to prison for 23 weeks after he pleaded guilty to assaulting Lisa Murphy, his daughter Shannon Murphy and a 17-year-old boy Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard how Shaw, of Wensley Road, screamed abuse at Lisa Murphy and grabbed her by the throat.

The court was told that Shaw 'was looking for an argument' and also damaged a window at the family's home.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said that when Shannon Murphy intervened, Shaw spat twice in her face and started banging her head against a wall, before he attacked Lisa Murphy again.

Shaw punched her in the face and bit her on the arm as she tried to defend herself, the prosecutor added.

When the teenage boy intervened, Shaw chased him out of the house and Lisa Murphy locked the door behind him.

Shaw, who had taken tablets he believed to be Valium because he was feeling depressed, broke a window in an attempt to get back in, but police arrived shortly after and he was arrested.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Shaw was 'sorry, ashamed and disgusted' by his actions.

He said: "They had a strange reaction with the other drugs he was taking and that lead to him behaving in an irrational manner in the two weeks prior to these offences.

"My client and Miss Murphy have been together for a long time and they have been through a lot together. There has never been anything like this before."
