IMPROVEMENTS will be made to hospital services for children in East Lancashire after they were rated "fair" by inspectors, an NHS boss has said.
The authority which runs hospitals in the area was given four ratings of fair, one of weak and one of excellent by the Healthcare Commission.
This gave it an overall score of fair on a scale of weak, fair, good and excellent.
The commission yesterday published ratings for all children's hospital departments in England.
Lynn Wissett, director of clinical care and governance at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which was among the 75 per cent of trusts which were scored fair or weak, said: "The Trust welcomes this report which is the result of the audit that took place last year.
"The report is useful in highlighting areas of high performance as well as those areas where further improvements can be made.
"The Trust has considered the report findings and is working through the implications."
Of the three other hospital trusts in Lancashire, two were rated fair, one good.
East Lancashire's scores were: l Emergency care environments: fair.
l Day case care environments: excellent.
l Inpatient care environments: fair.
l Outpatient environments: weak.
l Emergency surgery: fair.
l Elective surgery: fair.
