A DAD is facing his greatest fear to help buy equipment for a children's hospital which could help his daughter.

Mark Allan has a fear of heights but will be undertaking a parachute jump for the Five Stars Appeal.

It aims to buy a new £1million MRI scanner by the end of the year to help children like his two-year-old daughter Madison, whose case has also prompted Darwen market traders to help.

The toddler, of Lord's Crescent, Lower Darwen, was diagnosed with a tumour at 10-months-old and could be helped by the new scanner.

Mr Allan will be jumping from a plane on April 22 to help Manchester Children's Hospital reach their goal.

His wife Samantha said: "I don't think it's quite hit him yet. I think he's mad but that's what makes it more exciting."

Samantha is also busy collecting sponsorship money for the Five Stars five kilometre run she is taking part in on April 1.
