A Darwen teenager kicked his mother's car after arguing when she asked him to help with the housework.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Daniel Lee Taylor then shouted at his mum that he was going to smash her face in.
Taylor, 18, of Redearth Road, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.
He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £200 compensation and £50 costs.
Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said on the morning of the incident Taylor argued with his mother when she asked him to tidy up.
He said: "The argument continued as he left the house and he started to kick the side of his mother's car."
The front door was locked on Taylor and his mum called the police.
