A police drama filmed in Rossendale will premiere on TV tonight.

The two-part drama Instinct' follows talented detective DCI Thomas Flynn (Anthony Flanagan), who pits his wits against a serial killer.

"The murderer has been stalking the Pennines, with the killings becoming more gruesome.

Bacup library was transformed into a police station for the thriller that was filmed last year.

A spokesman for ITV said: "Director Terry McDonough wanted a backdrop of disused and rundown factories to convey the isolation felt by the killer's victims, and Rossendale valley is ideal for the thrilling plot.

"It's an extraordinary place, with a sense of nature almost knocking on people's doors, so close are people to the moors."

Rossendale Council leader Duncan Ruddick said: "We are delighted by the increased number of film and TV companies using Rossendale as a location.

"We have some great locations and are working with the Lancashire Film Office and North West Vision to attract film and TV companies to the borough."

Instinct, which concludes tomorrow, is produced by Tightrope, the company founded by the creator of Shameless, the award-winning comedy drama also set in the North West.

Instinct is on ITV 1 at 9pm.
