A MOTORIST found driving erratically was discovered to have more than £5,000-worth of amphetamines stashed in his vehicle, a court heard.

Police also found scales, a couple of mobile telephones and £100 in cash after pulling over John Beveridge, Burnley Crown Court was told.

Emma Kehoe, prosecuting, said text messages relating to drug dealing were found on the phones.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Beveridge now had family commitments and was ‘looking to turn his life around’.

Beveridge, of Hall Road, Trawden, who admitted possession of amphetamines with intent to supply, had also been receiving assistance from the probation service, following his conviction for other drug-related offences. The court heard the defendant was on a drugs rehabilitation order, which still had seven months left to run.

Judge Beverley Lunt imposed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 20 months, to run consecutively to his current order.
